Author Spotlight: Kristen Portillo

1. What is your name?

Kristen Portillo

2. Where are you from?

Originally, I am from Southern California, but have lived in the Pacific Northwest (Washington) for too long - I mean 12 years.
3. What do you do creatively?

I write books, of course!

4. What is the first thing you ever remember creating?

I used to write ‘romance novels’ or ‘mystery novels’ when I was about seven on my grandparents typewriter and later on their big clunky Mac desktop. The girl protagonists were always just like me, and the boys (surely the antagonists if there were any) got chased and kissed a lot. Oh, the simple mind of a seven year old.

5. What are your inspirations?

I am inspired by anything that makes me feel. Books, songs, movies, life events; if it makes me angry or cry or hurt or rejoice, it inspires me. Currently, to write my second novel, I am inspired by Spanish guitar, Kizomba dance moves, and Spanish culture.

6. Where can we find your work online?

8. What is something people should know about you?

9. Anything you'd like to add?

My books are caffeine driven … that is all.

Greg's note: Kristen is a lovely woman and a harsh critic. She's a special, gorgeous woman with a sharp mind and wit. I could gush for days about Kristen but maybe you should check out what she's written and figure that out for yourself.
